During the historic 2015-2016 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors, led by the trio of Draymond Green, Steph Curry, and Klay Thompson, shattered records on their path to a remarkable 73-9 campaign. Surpassing the previous record set by Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and the Chicago Bulls during the 1995-1996 season, the Warriors etched their names in basketball history.
Draymond Green’s commitment to the Golden State Warriors was unwavering, even in the face of adversity. In a recent episode of “Podcast P with Paul George,” Green joined Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George to reflect on that record-breaking season and shed light on a profoundly personal sacrifice he made to aid his team’s pursuit of greatness.
During the podcast discussion, Green vividly recalled an incident where he suffered a blow to the head by Joe Ingles. It occurred during a pivotal moment, with only five games remaining in the regular season. Despite being concussed and enduring immense discomfort, Green made a decision that epitomized his dedication to the Warriors. He concealed his injury from his teammates and coaching staff, understanding the profound impact his absence could have on the team’s pursuit of the historic regular season record.
“I remember I got hit in the head by Joe Ingles. I go up for a loose ball and I fell down. This may be five games left in the regular season. I was concussed as hell and I told nobody. If I sit any of these games, we might never get that [regular season] record. … So, I played through it,” Green said.
“We always talk about “load management” the amount of s**t I played through, we played through that year to get that was insane.”
His unparalleled dedication and unbreakable spirit not only cemented his place as an indispensable force within the Warriors’ lineup but also left an indelible mark on the annals of basketball history.

Draymond Green penned an extension with the Dubs the moment free agency started to keep the Warriors’ big three dynasty alive. The 2017 Defensive Player of the Year signed a four-year $100 million deal to stay with the team that drafted him. Draymond declined his $27.5 million player option earlier this offseason and became an unrestricted free agent. His new deal will pay him around $22.3 million this upcoming season which is $5.3 million less than last season which will save the Dubs a lot of money in luxury tax.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said Green’s return is essential for them to continue contending for another championship. “Look, if Draymond is not back, we’re not a championship contender. We know that,” Kerr said. “He’s that important to winning and to who we are. I absolutely want him back.”
Draymond Green is the key to the success of the Warriors team. Although his performance and scoring have declined, he continues to play at a championship level with his intelligent decision-making on offense and his determination and toughness on defense.
