In recent years, both NBA players and fans have shown renewed interest in the WNBA. It was spurred in part by the late Kobe Bryant‘s retirement. With Bryant’s interest in the women’s league and his involvement in his daughter’s developing basketball career, other players began to take notice. Eighteen-time NBA All-Star LeBron James donned women’s league clothing during the NBA’s renowned “bubble playoffs.” Other NBA players like Draymond Green and fans quickly followed suit, sporting the orange sweatshirt.

Lisa Leslie appeared on Friday’s edition of UNINTERRUPTED’s “The Shop.” The two-time champion and three-time MVP discussed promoting the WNBA with LeBron James and Draymond Green. Green claimed that “NBA players support the WNBA more than we support the fucking NBA.” According to one of the brightest talents to ever step foot on a women’s basketball floor, NBA players are the “No. 1 allies” of the WNBA and its athletes. Even yet, she believes they can do more to assist the league. Lisa Leslie, WNBA great, sat down with NBA players LeBron James, Draymond Green, and P.J. Tucker for the Season 5 premiere of UNINTERRUPTED’s “The Shop” on Friday.

Despite all of the fresh support the league has received in recent years, the organization has failed to earn a profit. Basketball great Lisa Leslie and NBA star Draymond Green discussed the gender wage gap in a recent edition of The Shop. Green was ready to answer when Leslie suggested that even a poor NBA player is paid more than many WNBA stars combined. He mentioned: “It pisses me off. I don’t think there’s anybody in America that supports the WNBA more than NBA players. We support the WNBA probably more than we support the fu***n’ NBA.”

“When LeBron wore that orange hoodie, I told them — that hoodie was just sitting there with the logo on it,” Leslie said as Green nodded along. “When he wore that hoodie, it went viral. I explained to them that our No. 1 allies that have supported us from day one are the NBA players. I said they tweet, they follow us, they come to our games — we don’t highlight them.”

The WNBA has spotlighted NBA players on several occasions during the past season. Phoenix Suns point guard Chris Paul was the inaugural recipient of the Kobe & Gigi Bryant WNBA Advocacy Award back in February 2022 because he “attended WNBA games throughout the regular season and playoffs, and also supports the youth girls’ game through camps and the CP3 Basketball Academy”

Green stated how players must put pressure on higher-ups who pretend to support women’s empowerment but do little to back it up. Fortunately, the women’s league has had a banner season this year. According to the league’s website, the most recent season was the most-watched in over 15 years, with viewership increasing by a stunning 16%. In addition, the league set records for social media engagement, gear sales, and League Pass sales
