“Anything can happen in the blink of an eye” Draymond Green gets emotional after Game 5 in discussing his real motivation behind title run

Draymond Green

The Golden State Warriors are completely focused on the here and now. After all, staying in the moment isn’t tough when a team is just one win away from hoisting the Larry O’Brien Trophy. Golden State, unlike the young Boston Celtics, has been to the NBA Finals several times. So far, Draymond Green has had a hard time in the NBA Finals. He put in a strong effort in Game 5 to help the Warriors take a 3-2 lead, but he’s not the same guy that led the Warriors to a Game 7 against the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.

Draymond Green has a lot of experience in the NBA. In fact, he has appeared in the NBA Finals six times in the last eight years. Whatever the case may be, the Golden State Warriors player considers this to be one of his most memorable championship runs. Green discussed how he’s grown to appreciate what the Warriors have accomplished this season, especially after the hardships they’ve faced the previous two seasons.

Curry, Green and Thompson seek one win to add another Title

They were still relatively young and establishing themselves in their careers when Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and emotional, do-it-all teammate Draymond Green began Golden State’s rise about a decade ago. They are closing in on another championship together as the centrepieces of what many consider a Warriors dynasty they helped create, despite being at very different phases of their separate basketball journeys and lives. The Warriors have a 3-2 NBA Finals lead over the Celtics heading into Game 6 on Thursday night in Boston.

The Splash Brothers and Green have now won 20 NBA finals games together, the second most by any NBA combination since 1970. They’ll be in company with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, and Michael Cooper, who won 22 finals games with the Lakers together. Coach Steve Kerr has also been here for the six NBA Finals appearances over eight years, including five straight from 2015-19. They’ve all been through so much in recent seasons, including two horrific injuries for Thompson, that this chance is extra valuable. Despite the contrasts and new faces from previous championship teams, Curry, Green, and Thompson were confident that everything will come together to form another winning group.

Draymond Green gets emotional on his title run after a 2 year gap.

“After the last two years, you just realize it’s not guaranteed, anything can happen in the blink of an eye that changes everything. So you just understand that you don’t have these opportunities often, and when you do, you have to enjoy them, embrace them, and share them with the people you love.” Draymond Green said in his press conference after Game 5. Green finds the sweetest part of it all to be able to share these treasured moments with the people he loves most in the world—his family.

As the reality of becoming a four-time NBA champion begins to kick in, Draymond Green has become quite emotional. He, more than anybody, understands that this is far from a done deal for the Warriors and on thursday night, Dray should expect to leave it all on the field. This team has dominated in the past, appears to be champions today, and is poised to do so in the future. The current trio of Curry,Thompson and Green will leave the league at some point, so every Finals trip until then will be even sweeter.
