Draymond Green ONLY reason why Jordan Poole was traded, confirms Warriors GM
Warriors' GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. has officially confirmed that the sole reason for trading Jordan Poole from the team was due to Draymond Green.

After the trade of Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards for Chris Paul, the incident that occurred during the Golden State Warriors training camp back in October 2022 between Poole and Draymond Green resurfaced in the spotlight. With the Wizards, Poole will now have the opportunity to take on the role of the primary ball handler, unlike his previous position as the 6th man for the Warriors.
Mike Dunleavy Jr., who assumed the General Manager position from the legendary Bob Myers, explained the reason behind moving Poole in an interview with the Athletic. He stated that they had to move Poole’s contract to enable the team to sign Draymond Green to a new contract, and they had to make roster decisions in line with the rules of the new CBA.
“The biggest thing was our financial position, which required some decisions,” Dunleavy said. “At the same time, we needed to get Draymond back, what he brings to this team and what he has meant for the last 10 years. That’s going to keep going. That matters. So we prioritized that. And from there, we knew … another contract probably needed to be moved. And Jordan ended up being that one.” He added.
Steve Kerr explains why they needed Chris Paul instead of Jordan Poole
The trade of Chris Paul to the Golden State Warriors caused the internet to break after they made it public. The fans were left confused because they had expected Jordan Poole, a very young guard, to take the mantle from Stephen Curry after he retired and led the Warriors into their next era.
But after he was traded, Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr explained why they needed Chris Paul on their team in a recent interview. He said that they needed more complexity in their offense as their attack last season was very one-dimensional and revolved around Stephen Curry.“Our team last year needed another way to attack and we became a little too one dimensional with Steph [Curry] in high ball screens,” Kerr said.
He further said that Chris Paul gives them a new look, as he is another playmaker along with Steph on the team now. Chris is also a great pick-and-roll player with a lot of experience in the playoffs.“We needed another playmaker to give us a different look and Chris is, as we know, one of the all-time great pick-and-roll players and he’ll know how to control the tempo. It’s hugely important—especially in playoff games—to have guys like that.” Kerr said.
Warriors fans hope that whatever Steve Kerr believes comes to be true because their big 3 of Steph, Klay, and Dray don’t have a lot of time to compete at the highest level. If this doesn’t work out, the team will miss another chance to compete for a championship after experiencing a disappointing second-round exit this past season.
