“I’m not sure he can quite make his guys believe that one,” Draymond Green responds to Ja Morant’s bold take on the Western Conference

Ja Morant has earned Draymond Green’s respect, but the four-time NBA champion isn’t hesitant to hold the Memphis Grizzlies star accountable when necessary. On the most recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” Green responded to Morant saying that he isn’t worried about any Western Conference club while speaking to ESPN’s Malika Andrews.

“I know everybody wanted to hear what I have to say about Ja’s take,” Green began. “I think you all know how I feel about that. I got a lot of love and respect for Ja, young leader that makes his guys believe whatever he believes, and that’s a very powerful thing as a leader. He got that. He’s had it since day one and you could see it glaringly noticeable since the time he stepped foot in Memphis.”

“I’m not sure he can quite make his guys believe that one, which is, ‘I’m fine in the West.’ You are fine, Ja. You are. But the Warriors are in the West now, champ. So yes, you are fine, Ja. The Grizzlies, on the other hand, that’s a topic for another day,” he continued. The six-game brawl between the Warriors and Grizzlies in the Western Conference Semifinals of the previous season served as the catalyst for this year’s back-and-forth. Even when Golden State won the series, the buzz and Twitter fingers continued.

Ja Morant: Memphis Grizzlies Are ‘Fine in the West’

The Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant doesn’t seem to be concerned about his Western Conference rivals. In an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Morant was asked which teams the Grizzlies should concentrate on, and the star guard responded with the name of a team from the Eastern Conference instead of a rival from the Western Conference. “Who do you look at around the league as you’re studying and say, ‘We’re gonna have to run through them?’” Andrews asked“Celtics,” Morant replied. “No one in the West?” Andrews said. “Nah, I’m fine in the West,” Morant said.

However, his comments didn’t age well at first, Ja Morant and the healthy Grizzlies since Ja said, “I’m fine in the West,” lost to the Warriors on Christmas day who were without their star players Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins, and lost to the Suns at home who were without Devin Booker, Cam Payne, Cam Johnson and Landry Shamet. The Memphis Grizzlies (25-13) defeated the Orlando Magic (14-25) 123-115 on Thursday at Amway Center to extend their winning streak to five games. The Grizzlies won their third consecutive road game, a season-high, and improved to a season-best 12 games above .500.
