Draymond Green to leave Warriors? Golden State legend to become free agent this offseason
Draymond Green expected to become a Free Agent this summer.

Draymond Green
Draymond Green is one of the biggest reasons behind Golden State Warriors‘ 4×NBA Championships in the last decade. He plays at the forward position and does the big man things. But he isn’t limited to just doing that. As Golden State Warriors have been using him as their primary ball handler, so Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson can get wide-open looks. The former DPOY is really a great playmaker for the Splash Brothers.
Draymond Green’s real impact though is on the defensive end where over the time he has claimed the dirty player title for his team. His presence and voice really keep the team rolling. But now, unfortunately, all of it can come to an end. As Draymond Green is expected to decline his player option with the Golden State Warriors and become a Free Agent.
Draymond Green expected to get an extension from the Golden State Warriors last season. But the franchise chose the young core over him and now is in no good position to give him a bag. So Draymond Green declining his $27.5 million player option with the Dubs and exploring the market is understandable. As at this point in his career, even he wants a good multi-year contract.
When the LeBron James-led Los Angeles Lakers knocked out the Golden State Warriors from the playoff. Many claimed that the Dubs Dynasty days were over and now with Draymond Green rolling out and breaking the big 3, those days are surely done and dusted.
But the Golden State Warriors aren’t giving up on Draymond Green. As Andscape’s Marc Spears reporting on the exact scenario stated: “The Warriors expect Draymond Green to opt out of the final year of his $26 million contract, I’m being told. But Joe Lacob, [Mike] Dunleavy, the Warriors are going to do everything in their power, if he does as expected, to bring him back.”
This is just one of the many tough decisions the front office has to make this offseason. The rumors also have Klay Thompson and his future in the Bay at risk. And, right now with the Draft being around the corner, they are also trying to improve their roster and can ship some of the young talent and picks around the league. But if they lose Draymond Green, nobody will be able to fill that space in the system.

HC Steve Kerr believes the Warriors won’t be a contender if Draymond Green leaves

Steve Kerr commented on Draymond Green’s future in the Bay after the Lakers knocked out Golden State Warriors in the playoffs. The HC believes the team won’t have real chances to win the 2024 NBA championship if the former DPOY isn’t back. Kerr quoted: “If Draymond’s not back, we’re not a championship contender. We know that. He’s that important to winning and to who we are. So I absolutely want him back. He’s a competitor, he’s an incredible defensive player, we can check all of those boxes, and he and I have built a really special relationship that has run the gamut over the years…”
Many around the Golden State Warriors want Draymond Green back. But unfortunately, they can’t land him the contract he wants.
So the transition period for the franchise has probably begun and in some seasons they’ll be rebuilding another set of great and talented core to win some more championships. But if they believe in themselves they can still run a Last Dance by trusting the Big 3 and bringing in another superstar by exchanging some young talent and picks.
