Draymond Green applied a chokehold on Rudy Gobert during the game between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves. This incident took center stage in sports headlines. Additionally, Dr. Brian Sutterer has explicitly detailed the violence and terror, shedding light on the gravity of the incident.

An altercation erupted less than two minutes into the game. It resulted in the ejections of Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson, forward Draymond Green, and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Jaden McDaniels. It all started with a tussle between McDaniels and Thompson. Swiftly, other players converged on the scene. Draymond Green took forceful action and placed Minnesota center Rudy Gobert in a headlock, ultimately leading to Green’s ejection.

Sports science expert Dr. Brian Sutterer compared the chokeholds to those executed by MMA fighters, emphasizing the potential risk of unconsciousness. This is what Dr. Sutterer said about the incident:

I will say one of the most concerning things honestly about this whole sequence was how Draymond initially went in just with his forearm on the front, striking the front part of Gobert's throat. The next part of this, then, that's really terrifying and just awful to watch is how Draymond just basically tries to drag Gobert by his neck.

Dr. Brian believed Draymond Green should receive a long ban for his highly dangerous act on Rudy Gobert. However, the league has set a 5-game suspension for his actions.

Dr. Sutterer also indicated that the action of Draymond was not about trying to protect Klay Thompson. Green not letting go of Gobert indicated the violent intention behind the chokehold.

Draymond Green suspended for Rudy Gobert attack

The NBA has banned Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors for five games, as announced by NBA Vice President Joe Dumars. The suspension happened due to Green putting Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves in a dangerous and reckless chokehold.

Green had wrapped his arm around Gobert’s neck after a tussle between Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels. Commencing his suspension on Thursday, Green will sit out when the Warriors host the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Klay Thompson of Golden State, along with McDaniels and Gobert of Minnesota, received a fine of $25,000 from the NBA. This marks Green’s fifth career suspension, the latest one resulting from stomping on the chest of Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis. Green’s defensive presence remains an important aspect of the Warriors. They will hope to have him back as soon as possible.
