Any person who has had a tainted history would not prefer for those incidents to be brought back into the limelight. Ja Morant happens to be one such person, who has a controversial past with guns. So, when Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson referenced to that part of Ja’s life during yesterday’s WWE Smackdown show in Memphis, fans chimed in to bash the WWE superstar.

The WWE rolled into the city of Memphis in Tennessee to stage Smackdown Live in FedExForum. This event marked the return of The Rock concert, performed by hometown hero, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. The Rock used this opportunity to include Memphis’ own superstar Ja Morant in his notes. He sang;

You're simply an embarrassment, son......Just like Ja Morant, when he’s waving a gun......I love you, Ja!

This reference to Morant’s infamous gun controversy was used to taunt his WrestleMania 40 Tag Team opponent Seth Rollins. Fans in the arena let out a unanimous cry of disapproval watching The Rock smear one of their own superstars.

Historically, The Rock has used this event to taunt his opponents. During this song against Rollins, the WWE put up a picture of a shirtless Morant on the big screen as The Rock belted out those words. The Rock insinuated that Rollins makes bad decisions, using Morant’s history with guns to get that point across.

However, NBA fans did not appreciate the use of one of their rising superstar’s controversial actions to get a point across. After all, Morant is trying to put all that behind him in his pursuit of trying to be a better person, both on and off the court.

Basketball fans not happy with The Rock taking a swipe at Ja Morant

The NBA’s wrath descended upon Ja Morant due to his gun-toting incidents, which mired him in controversy. After returning from a 25-game suspension, Morant vowed to be the best version of himself. He then played in 9 games this season, before suffering a season ending injury. As he rehabilitates from home, the last thing Morant needed was to be reminded of his embarrassing actions.

NBA fans felt the same as The Rock did not have need to bring up the past of the Memphis Grizzlies superstar, just to get his point across to WWE fans and Seth Rollins. They took to social media to call out ‘The Great’ one. Check out some of those comments below;

The Rock is doing everything to gain the upper hand prior to his showdown in WrestleMania 40. But using Ja Morant’s gun controversy as a prop did not sit well with fans.
