One of the biggest topics of discussion about Twitter is its new policy for a verified ‘blue tick’ mark. Elon Musk, after taking over Twitter, had issued a notice that any Twitter user could get a blue verification tick for a subscription. The subscription price stands at $8/week or $84/year. Following Musk’s new policy, many celebrities, sportspersons, institutions, etc., expressed their disapproval of the new policy. One of the famous personalities who refused to pay the amount was LeBron James.
As iconic figures started losing their blue ticks, Musk needed some key names to still have it to keep the blue tick’s popularity afloat. As a result, the CEO of Twitter started paying the subscription fee for some people himself. Musk then revealed that he was doing this for just three popular icons: William Shatner, Stephen King, and LeBron James.
LeBron James has always had a reputation for not spending recklessly. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar also tweeted that he wouldn’t pay for Twitter Blue. “Welp guess my blue will be gone soon cause if you know me I ain’t paying the 5,” he tweeted, saying five instead of eight as the price. However, when everyone started losing their blue ticks, James still had his intact, confusing fans.
Many started to troll James on social media for paying for Twitter Blue despite saying the contrary. After all, no one expected the Twitter CEO to pay for James, so the possibility wasn’t accounted for. However, when reports of Musk’s strategy came in, he did not deny the speculations. In a reply tweet to Pop Base, Musk confirmed that he was paying for “just Shatner, LeBron and King.”

Are celebrities losing their Twitter verification marks?
As Elon Musk’s new Twitter blue policy has started to act, celebrities have started losing their Twitter verification marks. Fans are now listing all those who have lost the blue tick. Many tweeted about their blue tick loss, saying they wouldn’t pay $8 for it. Many have also said that they have only one official account with one official username. The list holds some heavy names, such as Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Selena Gomez, Finneas, Charli XCX, etc., from the world of music.
Many NBA players have also lost their blue tick. Although James has his paid for by Elon, his fellow NBA players weren’t so fortunate. Big players such as Stephen Curry, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Ja Morant have all lost their verification marks. It is unlikely that any of these players would worry about Twitter verification. With the NBA playoff first round going on, they all have their focus locked in on the games.
