“There’s no improvement,” DISAPPOINTED Houston Rockets’ veteran Eric Gordon criticizes the young team amid trade rumors
Eric Gordon
The Houston Rockets are struggling to stay afloat this season and it looks like the team’s veteran players are starting to get frustrated. Eric Gordon, the longest-tenured Rocket, recently spoke out about the young team amid trade rumors. Gordon expressed his frustrations with the young team, criticizing them for their lack of improvement and also sounded disappointed with their current form.
The vet had this to say about the team; “There’s no improvement… Same old thing all year. We have a small margin for error. It’s a lot of things. It’s mindset. You got to play for one another. Do what’s right by your teammates. If you do that, it’d be more fun. You give yourself a better chance to win.”
The young Rockets team is one that would let the players play through all of their mistakes. However, Eric Gordon doesn’t. And, even though there has been healthy development from the youngsters on the Rockets. Clearly discontent with the situation, Gordon didn’t hold back.
Gordon is one of the better bench sparkplugs in the league and has been very consistent in that role for a number of years. At the moment, the Rockets’ and Gordon’s timelines are divergent from one another and the most likely outcome is a buyout or a trade to a championship contender at the deadline. A shooter and shot creator like Eric Gordon would be a help to a lot of contenders’ second units. His destination is a subject of intrigue.
Gordon is right to be frustrated with the Rockets’ awful play this season
29th in points per game and dead last in FG%. 29th in ORTG, 28th in DRTG and 27th in Net Rating. Those are some of the major numbers attached to Houston’s play this season. Only the 10-29 Detroit Pistons and 10-27 Charlotte Hornets have a worse record than the Rockets’ 10-26.
It’s safe to say that the Rockets have been downright awful this year and the latest 3-game-losing streak doesn’t help matters. Houston is in the race to tank for Wembanyama, but the major question is that if they don’t get him, what is the next move? There were strong rumblings about James Harden wanting to return to Houston after playing out this season with Philadelphia.
But is a reunion with an old flame the best option with the likes of Kevin Porter Jr., Jalen Green, Jabari Smith, and Alperen Sengun – all of whom require the ball a certain amount for their development – on the roster? For right now, they have to deal with what to do with the Eric Gordon situation. It is surely shaping up to be an interesting next year in Houston with regard to roster building.
