Owing to his achievements in the league, Jose Alvarado has earned the moniker “Grand Theft Alvarado.” But few are aware of the origin of the moniker.

Before the opposition reaches half-court, Alvarado is notorious for creeping past the baseline and forcing a turnover. In that area, he has had considerable success, which is how the nickname got its start.

He supported the New Orleans Pelicans in their fightback against the Phoenix Suns in the opening phase of the 2022 postseason. The Pelicans had a brief glimmer of optimism despite losing the series 4-2.

Alvarado played 1.4 minutes each game off the bench and recorded 1.3 steals in his rookie year. He has shown that he can give the Pelicans some energy off the bench.

Jose has demonstrated his value in intercepting and forcing a turnover once again this year with 71 interceptions in 54 games played. In just 834 minutes, he came fourth amongst all first-year rookies in steals. Herb Jones, a teammate that led the class with 130 turnovers, clocked 2,335 minutes in contrast.

In order to keep their teams relevant and strong in the NBA, athletes are continuously coming up with fresh ideas. The NBA became aware of the three-point line’s potential abuse thanks to Steph Curry

A full-court press is being modernized by Jose. Alvarado lurks along the baseline and creeps in for the steal when the opponent is least expecting it, while others wait in front to make things tough for the opposition.

Alvarado disclosed the move’s genesis on JJ Reddick’s “The Old Man & The Three.” He said that it had been going on since the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). He discussed how he persisted in doing it despite several of his coaches telling him to stop.

“I started doing it in AAU basketball. If I could tell you that I can remember when I started doing it, I don’t. Or how did it start working? I really don’t remember,” Jose who’s now known as Grand Theft Alvarado said.

Alvarado, who had a two-way agreement when the year began, used his skills this year to earn a long-term deal with the Pelicans. Therefore, the opposition’s teams must now be extremely vigilant for his signature sneak attack.

The Pelicans’ stellar performance this season has been greatly helped by Jose’s talents. He has progressed from only playing defence to making significant baskets. His playing time has increased as a result of the coach beginning to put more faith in him. Jose Alvarado is committed to establishing that he is more than just a name. He declared that his goal is to become one of the league’s top guards, especially on the defensive end.
