In Game 6 of the 2006 NBA Playoffs, the Washington Wizards were up 113–112 against the Cleveland Cavaliers while Gilbert Arenas was on the free throw line with 15.1 seconds remaining. Arenas missed both of his free throws, but LeBron James said something to him. Gilbert Arenas couldn’t shake the scenario in his mind after it happened. He had to figure out how to get past it, and that’s when he thought of Kobe Bryant as an example.
He described how he got his training with a Black Ops agent and the amazing encounter that enabled him to erase the memory. Arenas described how LeBron James’ actions made him enroll in Kobe Bryant-inspired “Black-Ops” training because he was missing free throws. With a point average of 29.3 per game, the Wizards star appeared to have a bright future ahead of him.
Gilbert Arenas said on The No Chill Podcast:
Kobe was working out with this Black Ops guy named Frank, out of San Francisco. Went to San Francisco. I remember the trainer Jrue came with him, and he was like, 'What's the problem?' I was like, 'There's no problem, I just don't want one. I want to be mentally strong.Gilbert Arenas on The No Chill Podcast
The Wizards lost the playoff series as a result of consecutive missed free throw attempts. King James successfully duped arenas. This compelled Gilbert to enroll in Kobe Bryant-inspired Black Ops training. Speaking about his training, Arenas said he spent more than four hours running to a blue house on the beach.
According to Gilbert Arenas, Kobe Bryant’s trash talk was intelligent
Perhaps one of the most driven individuals to have ever played professional sports is still Kobe Bryant. He demonstrated the Mamba Mentality throughout his NBA career, giving timeless meaning to a statement. Bryant, who is regarded as the greatest rival, repeatedly showed his opponents why they should be afraid of him.
Arenas added:
That was his thing, where it's like he's gonna attack your intelligence to see if you're gonna fall for the bait.
The veteran believed that Bryant’s insults were well-informed and deliberate. Arenas discussed an incident that happened in the middle of the game between the two after Caron Butler fouled one of Kobe’s teammates during a break in a recent interview with DJ Vlad for VladTV.
It excited Bryant by more than just making fun of his rivals; it was also about how he did it. For instance, Bryant gained notoriety for disparaging Louis Scola during the 2008 Olympics, when he was entrusted with guiding Team USA back to its previous success. LeBron James gestured for him to calm down because his disparaging remarks about Scola were so strong.
