Jimmy Butler most certainly trolled an NBA betting fan on Thursday night, if there was ever a night to do so. In a road game with all the makings of an easy win for the visitors, the Miami Heat took on the 1-7 Memphis Grizzlies. Jimmy Butler typically exacts his revenge on the opposing team whenever he feels competitive. However, this time around, Jimmy Butler was forced to play without his customary competitiveness.
Like many other NBA players, Jimmy Butler isn’t impacted by your parlay. In a time when sports betting is so popular, more and more fans are being called out for criticizing athletes when their parlay doesn’t pay off. We saw Butler on camera being told by a courtside spectator during the game that he needs to score 20 points in order for his parlay to be profitable.
The fan said to Butler:
20-man score for me, Jimmy I got play my mortgage.
Butler replied:
What I paid mine, I bought my house cash.
The fan then said:
Cash? ha ha right here, make this 3 for real, i need this money.
Jimmy Butler responded to the fan’s joke, which implied that he needed it to happen in order to pay his mortgage, with great humor. In response, the seasoned NBA player—who finished with 15 points—stated that he made the $7 million mortgage payment on his Miami home in cash. The fan says, “I need Butler to make this next three-pointer,” as the video comes to an end. Butler, however, turns back to defense when the ball does not come his way.
Internet reacts to Fan and Jimmy Butler’s convo about parlay
The conversation between a fan and Jimmy Butler seems to make a lot of smoke and trolls for him. He was quiet until he mentioned, “I got to pay my mortgage”. Butler has already had an unforgettable experience with a fan who was yelling at him during a game. Butler seemed to be yelled at by a Grizzlies fan all the time when he was a member of the Chicago Bulls in 2017.
As previously mentioned, Jimmy Butler wasn’t the only athlete to criticize fans recently for their parlays. This week, Kevin Huerter and Malik Monk also made a strong social media statement declaring that they don’t give a damn about fan parlays and that they don’t care if they don’t make it. It makes sense that many on X are taking this topic seriously and believing that betting is a dirty way for sports to be carried out.
Butler did not score the twenty points required by the courtside fan to win the parlay, but he did help the Miami Heat defeat the Memphis Grizzlies. Sadly, Tyler Herro suffered an ankle injury during the game that will keep him out of commission for several weeks. The Miami Heat’s run at a deep postseason run has now reached three games thanks to the victory.
