Draymond Green is not known to be a clutch scorer. His illustrious teammate Stephen Curry is. So, when Curry passed the ball to Green with 2.5 seconds on the clock for the go-ahead basket, fans were bemused.

In the game between the Golden State Warriors vs the Los Angeles Clippers, the Warriors held a lead as high as 22 points but a comeback by the Clippers in the final two quarters put the game on the line. With 2.5 seconds to go and Curry being hounded, he had no choice but to pass the ball to Green. Fans had their hands on their heads with that move.

Draymond Green did start the game well, putting up 4 of 5 3-pointers in the first quarter. He was instrumental in the Warriors pulling away with a lead. However, clutch shots are not Green’s game, clutch defense is. Stephen Curry was hounded on the final play by former Defensive Player of the Year Kawhi Leonard. Curry could not complete the drive and had to pass the ball with only Green open.

Those 3-pointers in the first quarter were wide-open shots. With opposing Los Angeles Clippers players defending away from Green, he had a great shooting night. However, the last shot was with Russell Westbrook‘s outstretched hands in his face. That is where Curry’s clutch shooting was needed.

How fans reacted to this mess by Draymond Green

Fans across the world watched in horror as the Golden State Warriors threw away a 22-point lead. But the Warriors were still in the game. In the final minutes, Curry missed a shot which was rebounded by Russell Westbrook. This led to a Paul George clutch three, giving the Clippers their first lead of the night.

Then, came the final possession with Curry driving to the basket. Leonard had help from Westbrook in defense, prompting Curry to pass the ball to the open Green. Westbrook’s charging defense toward Green made the difference.

But fans are still bemused as to why would Stephen Curry pass it to Green of all people to take the final shot.
