The Celtics destroyed them, 139-96, without Kevin Durant, Ben Simmons, or T.J. Warren. The Brooklyn Nets have lost their last 10 games versus Boston and are currently 0-3 against the Celtics this season. Their following match is scheduled for March 3 at Boston’s TD Garden.

Boston Celtics win over the Brooklyn Nets for the third time this season

The Brooklyn Nets had previously fallen to the Celtics twice this season, but this was by far the worst of the bunch. The Nets’ 43-point defeat was their worst since suffering a 44-point defeat against the Portland Trail Blazers in February 2014.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown each made seven three-pointers during the game. This put the Celtics’ 48.1 percent three-point shooting over the course of the contest against the Nets’ 23.1%. The two were the first teammates in Boston team history to both make seven three-pointers in the same game.

In the loss in which the Brooklyn Nets played without key players because of injury, Irving scored a team-high 20 points over 31 minutes. Just weeks after moving up to No. 2, Brooklyn’s loss put them 5.5 games behind the Celtics for the top seed in the East.

Since losing Kevin Durant to injury, the Nets have lost just 4-7 games, including two to Boston. Jacque Vaughn said that his team’s difficulties during the historic beating were his fault as well. “I think if you look at how we were moving, the energy and effort that we needed to beat this team tonight. We were lacking that from the beginning of the game,” Vaughn said.
