“This man is incredible” – Fans in awe as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ruins a historical night for Damian Lillard with his buzzer beater
SHAI GILGEOUS-ALEXANDER
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has become an underappreciated phenomenon this season. He has been on an absolute tear so far into the 2022-23 season and continues to impress on both sides of the floor. His game-winner on Monday against the Portland Trail Blazers was another testament to his changed persona and leadership for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
His exponential growth as a player in the last few seasons is finally meeting the astronomical numbers he is putting up this season. Shai not only put on a show against the Blazers on Monday but ended the game on an even better note. With the game tied Alexander hit the game-winner to hand the Thunder 13th win of the season.
With 3.2 seconds remaining on the clock and the game tied at 121-121, Jalen Williams took the ball out of the bounds. Shai was hovering a few feet away being defended by Justise Winslow of the Blazers. Alexander received the pass from Williams and made a filthy spin that left Winslow lurching a full step behind. He pulled up, squared his shoulders, and sunk the jumper to beat the buzzer.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leads OKC in victory over Blazers
OKC’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander started the game slowly as he only shot 2 of 11 in the first half, definitely a disappointing start for a player of his caliber. But entering into the 2nd half, Shai pulled moves from his bag. In the third quarter, he made 4 of his 7 shots and a three-pointer. He scored 12 points in the 3rd quarter.
He again put up 12 points in the 4th quarter including the game-winning buzzer-beater. This was Gilgeous-Alexander’s other 30-point game in the season. He finished the game with 35 points, 6 assists, 2 rebounds, a steal, and 2 crucial blocks.
