Ime Udoka, a former assistant under Steve Nash has been widely reported to be the leading candidate to take over as the Nets’ head coach less than an hour after the announcement that Nash and the team had parted ways. The Athletics’ Shams Charania and ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski both claimed that the Nets might hire Udoka, with Shams stating that negotiations have already started and Woj speculating that a deal might be reached as soon as this Wednesday. If everything goes according to plan, the Nets could sign Udoka within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Ime Udoka was hired by Boston in the summer of 2021 after Brad Stevens’ unexpected decision to resign and join the front office. Ime Udoka served as Nash’s assistant coach in Brooklyn for the 2020–2021 season and Sean Marks, the general manager of the Nets, and Udoka worked with the San Antonio Spurs. Udoka may be able to find redemption on the floor despite his disgrace in Boston if he coaches the Nets this season.
