It is not uncommon practice for a University to host charity games for the public. Something of the sort was done by the Iowa University. They had an exhibition game featuring their women’s team. The team was spearheaded by college superstar Caitlin Clark.
The match was against DePaul, and Iowa won, led by Clark’s triple double. The stadium the match was hosted in was the Kinnick Stadium. The stadium was a football field with a basketball court assembled on one corner. It housed more than 55,000 people for the match, setting an attendance record for a women’s NCAA basketball game.
The number of fans were reported to be at 55,646 -a huge number for a basketball game.
The placement of the basketball court however made visibility an issue and left some wondering whether people were able to see the game. Indeed only one side of the stadium appeared to be able to observe what was actually going on at the game, while the other end was left in suspense.
