The Phoenix Suns announced this morning that they are re-signing Josh Okogie to their roster. Okogie will be heading back to Phoenix on a one-year minimum deal. The details of the deal are not yet known, but it is estimated to be around the $2 million mark given that Josh Okogie is in his fifth year in the league.
This signing is vital for the Phoenix Suns, who are looking to build around their star roster. Acquiring a solid veteran at this price point is crucial for a team with limited resources. The deal was supposedly done a few weeks ago, with the team making it official today. Following the agreement, the team released a statement to announce the signing of the forward.
“Josh plays with relentless energy,” said Phoenix Suns President of Basketball Operations and General Manager James Jones. “His grit, intensity and athleticism are vital to the success of our team. He consistently makes winning plays on both ends of the floor. He is truly unique,” he added.
The 6’4 forward won the team’s Majerle Hustle Award last year while averaging 11.5 points on 37% shooting beyond the arc. Okogie was one of the most sought-after free agents this offseason but took a pay cut to return to the Suns.
The forward was the team’s defensive cornerstone in last season’s playoff matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers. The forward’s versatility to guard guards and wings will be crucial for the Suns in this year’s upcoming title push for the team.
Interestingly enough, Okogie was one of the only two players last season to record 30 blocks while grabbing 100 offensive rebounds. Along with Okogie, last year’s key player, Damion Lee, is also staying with Phoenix.

NBA fans react to Josh Okogie’s new haircut
Following the official statement, the Suns posted a picture of Josh Okogie signing the agreement on their official Twitter handle. The Suns player was seen rocking a new haircut. In the process of showing his new braids, the veteran’s hairline seemed to have taken a few inches backwards and fans can’t stop clowning Okogie.
It seemed like fans were more concerned with Okogie’s haircut than the signing itself. Fans were prompting the returning forward to fire his barber immediately. You can check the reactions below:
Phoenix Suns somehow assembled a formidable supporting cast for their expensive starting line-up following a masterclass from the front office. General Manager James Jones in some way snaked through the CBA and gave Kevin Durant and Booker a real fighting chance at the Championship.
