“Just retire please” Fans THRASH LeBron James protesting against Kyrie Irving’s suspension and Nets ‘to do list’
LeBron James and Kyrie Irving
LeBron James is already having the worst season of his career, not only in the stats but with his body language as well. The Lakers’ roster is perhaps the worst roster put around James in his career and on top of that LeBron is not young anymore to carry his team on his shoulders. He is averaging 24.9 ppg and 6.9 assists this season, which from LeBron’s standard, even at this age is low. It already appears like LeBron and the Lakers have no comeback this season.
LeBron’s former teammate Kyrie Irving has been under fire for the controversy surrounding his alleged antisemitic beliefs. Last week LeBron was asked about Kyrie’s controversy to which LeBron replied, “I don’t condone any hate. To any kind, any race…What Kyrie did caused some harm to a lot of people…I don’t respect it.”
Since then Irving has been suspended and was issued a list with 6 conditions by the Nets to fulfill in order to return to the team. Several NBA analysts like Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe have spoken against the terms of his return. Sharpe went on to say that “They’re trying to rob the man of his dignity”. ESPN sports analyst Stephen A. Smith said, “This is excessive.” He also called out Brooklyn Nets and remarked, “right now you (Nets) are engaging in emasculation.”

LeBron is the only other player apart from Jaylen Brown to speak against the conditions laid by the Brooklyn Nets. Earlier this week Brown who is also the Vice President of the Players Association, said, “The terms for his return, they seem like a lot, and a lot of the players expressed discomfort with the terms”, and he does not believe Kyrie Irving is antisemitic.
On Thursday, LeBron James issued his statement on Twitter regarding the terms and conditions of Irving’s return. LeBron wrote, “I told you guys that I don’t believe in sharing hurtful information. And I’ll continue to be that way but Kyrie apologized and he should be able to play. That’s what I think. It’s that simple. Help him learn- but he should be playing.” He further added, “What he’s asked to do to get back on the floor I think is excessive IMO. He’s not the person that’s being portrayed of him. Anyways back to my rehab session.” Kyrie has not played the last 4 games for the Nets and they have won 3 of 4 games in his absence.
Twitter trashed LeBron James for speaking against the Nets’ conditions for Kyrie’s return
LeBron James is one of those people in the NBA whose voice matters not only to the league but also to the Black Community. After James issued his statement on Twitter, it was inevitable that his statement would not attract a reaction from Twitter. “We’re not reading this, just retire please”, replied one of the Twitter users to LeBron’s statement. Another user wrote, “Elon Musk got me double checking ur account smh.” Here are some of the many divided reactions from Twitter;
As several media analysts have already spoken against the list of terms for Kyrie’s return, James’ voice has a strong effect on the NBA community. It remains to be seen what other players come in support of Irving following LeBron’s statement.
