“Kyrie has been seen working out in LA” Former Bulls star wonders how Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving will pan out
Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant
The NBA off-seasons are always full of speculation and rumors, while the 2022 off-season was dominated by the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving situation at Brooklyn Nets. At the start of the offseason, it seemed as if the Brooklyn Nets would be without their both Megastars, while the situation is very much different after 2 months of melodrama. Although KD requested a trade in late June and also had a face-to-face meeting with the owners to make his request more “vicious”, he will be returning to Black and White as the team announced. Similarly, after a declining multiyear deal for the talented guard, the Nets were able to hold on to him at least for the 2023 season. Ultimately both superstars will be seen playing for the Nets next season.
So is everything all good with the Brooklyn Nets roster? Kevin Durant is confirmed, Kyrie Irving is confirmed, Ben Simmons “might” play his role this season, and the team is stacked with great shooters. All seems well on paper for the title aspiring team, but ESPN analyst Jay Williams has a very “fact-checking” question for them.
On ESPN’s “First Take,” show, Williams said he still has some queries about the relationship between Durant and Kyrie Irving. He said, “I still wonder about what is that relationship like between Kyrie and Kevin Durant. Kyrie is working out in LA, and all these rumors are circulating around the fact that he wants to be in LA . I’m still waiting to see what that on-the-court dynamic could be.”
During his contract negotiation period, Kyrie was considering a move to LA Lakers, with the team also interested in his services. But commercials halted the finalization of the deal, and Kyrie exercised his player option to stay with the Nets. But there’s been much speculation suggesting that Irving still wants to eventually end up in LA.
Will Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant stick together to deliver Championship for the Brooklyn Nets?
Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant joined forces at Brooklyn back in 2019. They had mixed results for the team but eventually failed to deliver a championship for the franchise. At age of 30+, both players are immensely talented and can turn games around on their own, but winning a title requires team chemistry and a potent support cast.
2-time NBA Champion KD recognizing the same requested a trade away from the media center of the world. Many teams tried hard for the trade but couldn’t match the Nets’ valuation. Finally, after “deciding” meeting with the Owners, coach, and management, Slim reaper decided to stay put.
Similarly, Kyrie also tried to find his way out after failing to land a multi-year extension. The Lakers were on Irving’s wish list in a request for a sign-and-trade deal before he took his player option to lock in his $37 million salary for the 2023 season. Even then the Lakers and Nets reportedly tried to work out a trade, but that didn’t work out as of now.
So after both players are confirmed by the Nets, it will be up to their chemistry within themselves and with the rest of the team also to make a push for the team’s aspirations. While KD and Kyrie both have been professionals throughout their careers – keeping aside their past team-switching, they share a very close friendship and will be able to work together as a team. As for the team, Ben Simmons is a sort of new addition, while the Nets also have added T.J. Warren and Royce O’Neale this offseason. So, maybe after a shaky offseason, they can fine-tune their relations with their teammates too.
