“He’s not a great locker room guy, not great for the team” Former NBA Champion believes Philadelphia 76ers should trade James Harden anyhow
Antonio Walker and James Harden
James Harden, a player who used to torcher the opposition defence with his 3-point shooting and clutch plays in the paint. However, for the past two seasons, the former MVP hasn’t been at his best. To add to his misery, he has looked even worse in every successive game in the playoffs for Philadelphia 76ers. And ahead of max-contract extension rumors, Antoine Walker believes the Beard should be shown the exit door as early as possible.
To those who are not aware James Harden would be up for a $47 Million player option for 2022-23 season. His ‘friend’ Daryl Morey has already urged that the Philadelphia 76ers are keen to having Harden’s services with them for as long as they can. Furthermore, earlier there were reports of Brooklyn Nets willing to offer James Harden a four-year $227 million contract extension. Upon which he said he wanted to experience free agency at least once in his career.
Should Sixers part ways with James Harden?
On the latest episode of First Things First alongside co-host Chris Broussard and Nick Wright, Walker spoke on Harden and stated, ““I was on the show and watched you guys say the Los Angeles Lakers have to trade Russell Westbrook. The Sixers gotta trade James Harden. I’m not worried about him opting to his deal. You have to trade James Harden.
“He’s not a great locker room guy, and he’s not great for the team and it showed last night. Moving forward, you have to trade Harden. That’s the move. You trade James Harden, and I’m not sure what his value is out there, but you trade James Harden. You don’t even get into contract talks; you try to move him.”
Rightly pointed out by Walkers, James Harden departure could ensure Joel Embiid having more of ‘supporting’ scorers like Tyrese Maxey alongside him. Moreover, with the Harden-main frame out of the picture, the Sixers could try new combinations in order to make full use of Embiid’s potential once again. That will also ensure Sixers to try different young players, who can be associated with the franchise for long.
