Shaquille O'Neal disses Phoenix Suns

Phoenix has been drowned and ripped apart by a storm of the name Luka Doncic, but Shaquille O’Neal knew the incoming collapse all along. Mavericks blitzed past Suns with a 123-90 knockout victory on Sunday night owing to a masterclass by Doncic. The Mavericks pounced on to a 57-27 lead over the top-seeded Phoenix Suns at halftime and never looked back, advancing to the Western Conference finals for the first time since 2011.

Doncic buried the game before halftime, making his first three shots including two 3-pointers, that helped Dallas push to a 27-17 advantage in the first quarter and a whopping 57-27 cushion at the halftime break. Phoenix’s All-Star backcourt of Paul and Devin Booker was rocked to the core and couldn’t recover at all , Booker finished with a measly 11 points and shot 3 of 14 while Paul had 10 points and four assists. The Suns shot just 37.9% from the field as Cam Johnson led all Suns scorers with 12 points off of the bench.

The Suns looked scary on paper, they had all the ingredients for the ideal team. An experienced veteran in Chris Paul, a rising scoring machine in Devin Booker, and a solid rim protector in DeAndre Ayton. The 4-time NBA Champion, Shaquille O’ Neal did not believe in the Suns and predicted that their doomsday would come despite having quality player in the team. The TNT analyst and NBA Hall of Famer spoke on his podcast The Big Shaqstradmus earlier in January this year picking the Warriors as NBA champions.

“Hey they ain’t got nobody that scares you, Listen, Phoenix is like Utah to me. Got a lot of good players, but some of those players can be punked now, Michelle, I’m just saying. If the Suns beat Golden State I am going to walk two blocks with Suns written on my ass, I’ll post it live on Instagram with it,” Shaq said on the Big Podcast in January this year. Its in incredible to see how right he eventually was as the Suns choked, and have a history of dysfunction like this similar to the Utah Jazz, despite having a team full of star players.

” It’s unfortunate because they had big aspirations and you know we talked about this at the beginning of the year, just because you made it to the Finals don’t mean you’re gonna make it back again. This game is going to hurt them all summer, all summer and now you know when you’re a good team and you can possibly make it to the finals and you have a chance to win the championship and you don’t make it it just hurts because now you got to start all over next year”

These were Shaq’s words for the Phoenix Suns historic collapse. The Dallas Mavericks will be celebrating and now face Golden State Warriors for the Conference crown. As for the Phoenix Suns, a record breaking 64- games won in the regular season was all they could salvage this season as they go back at it next year.
