Former NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire arrested in Miami for allegedly punching and slapping his teen daughter

Amar’e Stoudemire, the former NBA forward was arrested in Miami on the charge of one count of misdemeanor battery and one count of domestic violence. The arrest came on early Sunday morning, he was also released from custody late Sunday morning. Stoudemire retired in 2016 from the league. He has previously played for New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and Miami Heat.
According to the Miami Herald, the former Mavericks star was arrested after 10 p.m. at his Miami condo after he was charged with domestic violence misdemeanor battery. The report says he was arrested for “slapping” and “punching” one of his daughters. As per the copy of the police report that was obtained by the Miami Herald, Stoudemire is accused of hitting one of his two teenage children. The two daughters of Stoudemire, who are 17 and 14, were not named in the report.
Stoudemire allegedly hit his daughter for being disrespectful to his mother. According to the police report, Amar’e was on the call when he told her not to be disrespectful to her. When the girl denied it, he said, “You’re talking back again,” and then punched her in the jaw. The punch left his teenage daughter bleeding, the report says. “I observed blood stains on the victim’s sweater and sweatpants,” the arrest report states via the Miami Herald. “The mother of the victim showed me the photo she received from her daughter, which shows the victim crying and blood running down her face.”

Amar’e Stoudemire denies allegations of hitting his daughter and asks for privacy

Following the report, Stoudemire released a statement on his social media account. Stoudemire wrote that the allegation against him “does not square with the facts.” He also made it clear that he was of Jewish origin and believes that “whatever is hateful to you, do not do to others.” He also wrote that being a father he would never hit his daughter, and asked for further privacy. Amar’e wrote, “I could never see myself assaulting any person, especially my children. I respect, protect, and love my family, particularly my children. As a father, I ask for your grace as we secure our space and privacy.”
The Herald said that Stoudemire exercised his right to remain silent following his arrest. A no-contact order for the duration of the investigation and pretrial release were both issued. The date of his upcoming court hearing is set on January 17, 2023. Stoudemire played 14 years in the NBA and averaged 18.9 points per game in his career. He also won the Rookie of the Year award with the Phoenix Suns.
