Matt Barnes is a former professional basketball player who played 14 seasons in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors. He won an NBA championship in his last season in 2017 with the Warriors. Now, talking about the Warriors, the former player has had a few words about their success recently.

During the Point Forward podcast with Andre Iguodala, Barnes praised the Warriors, calling their achievements with Steph Curry “not normal.” Barnes, a former Warrior who joined the team in October 2006 and captained during the 2007-08 season, later had stints with various teams. He returned to the Warriors in 2017 when Kevin Durant got injured, making a comeback after playing for the Suns, Magic, Lakers, Clippers, Grizzlies, and Kings. But, now, as Barnes rated the Warriors’ current success run, he talks about the players who have played an immense role in this.

Barnes said that boasting great players like Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson all alongside Stephen Curry, egos were left on the door before coming onto the court. All while he was there with the team.

I’m just like you look at all these superstars from KD to Steph to Klay to Draymond on the rise to super solid vets like yourself and Rockstar head coach. At least while I was there, there was no egos... The way you guys love & f*ck with each other, that's not normal.

The most important factor needed for a championship team is a good team culture. And the Warriors have the best team culture in the league. Matt Barnes had experienced both in his two seasons with the Dubs.

Keeping their egos in check was a major reason that helped the Warriors get to 5 straight finals, winning 3 rings between 2015 and 2019.

Steph Curry opens up about Kevin Durant’s departure from the Warriors

Curry said:

I never really had any hurt, to begin with. I knew as a man, as an athlete, he didn't owe me anything; he doesn't owe our franchise anything. It was a situation where he left it was his own decision. I made sure I was open and available about how I felt about him as a person, and as a player.

Though Kevin Durant left the Warriors, Curry and he maintain a strong and positive bond. Their enduring relationship proves that teammates can change, but true connections last beyond the court.
