“Fighting the algorithm” Fred VanVleet breaks silence after UNFOLLOWING Raptors teammates and his mother on IG
Fred VanVleet - Toronto Raptors
Fred VanVleet emerged as one of the biggest stars during the 2019 NBA Finals and helped anchor the Toronto Raptors offense as well. The former champion became their leader following the exist of Kyle Lowry and Kawhi Leonard. They managed to secure the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference with his as their cornerstone last season.
The Raptors have had an iffy start this season. They have 13 wins and losses ranking at the ninth spot in the division. Fred VanVleet for one, hasn’t been himself lately which has affected the former champions terribly. Fred recently went on a unfollow spree on Instagram and here is why he chose to do it. “It’s gonna take more than a couple bad shooting games for me to lose my mind,” said VanVleet via Josh Lewenberg.
“There’s so many things I’m not following & its just suggestion, suggestion, suggestion. So, stupid me, I unfollowed everybody to see if it helped. It didnt help. Somebody caught wind of it & said I unfollowed my teammates. I unfollowed my mom too they didnt care about that part,” he continued. “People are very interested in my personal life now, which is new for me. I’ve gotta be more aware of that. But I do take everything in stride. I’m a real person,” he concluded.
After Fred VanVleet had followed his own teammates, several Raptors fans started speculating that he may have opted out of their journey as a team. Fans began to bash him online and include him in trade scenarios. Some believed it may have also been a tactic used to acquire a larger deal. But it seems that VanVleet simply wanted out of the toxic media life and pay more attention to his game. He said he was “Fighting the algorithm”.
Fred VanVleet and the Toronto Raptors dwindle through failure
The Toronto Raptors have been struggling to find a grip over their consistency in winning. They have lost 4 out of 6 games since the start of December with their most recent one coming off against the Orlando Magic. Currently seated at the 9th seed, the Raptors have ample time to make a comeback.
Fred VanVleet has also struggled to out up winning numbers. The veteran point has been extremely off in his productivity level. The Raptors are a team that relies on Fred to stay afloat. Besides having a very young and hungry core, VanVleet is the only one with experience on that roster.
