“I unfollowed my mom too,” Fred VanVleet claps back over IG controversy
Fred VanVleet
Fred VanVleet is not an underrated player anymore, the Toronto Raptor guard is perhaps the most skilled player on the Raptors’ roster. He was an All-Star in the 2021-22 season and became the only undrafted player after Connie Hawkins, Starks (1994), Ben Wallace (2003-06), and Brad Miller (2003-04) to make it to an All-Star team.
VanVleet is not only an excellent three-point shooter but also a wizard with the basketball. Despite his current 3-point slump in the last few games, the Raptors star is averaging 16.9 points, and 6.4 assists this season. Amidst VanVleet’s social media activity, many believe there must be something brewing behind the curtain.
Being a celebrity, athletes’ social media accounts are of interest to fans, and the sports & entertainment world. In other words, they are always under scrutiny. In the recent turn of events, it was observed that Vanvleet had unfollowed the Toronto Raptors and all his teammates on his Instagram. To add to that he had also unfollowed his wife and his mother on his handle.
Such activity from athletes is considered an indication of an impending big move that might involve the person in question and so was the All-Star. For many, there might be a big move coming ahead of the trade deadline. However, the breaking news wasn’t what everyone expected or feared it to be. Nor there are any trade scenarios involving VanVleet this season.
Fred VanVleet clears the IG controversy, saying he followed his mother too
Clearing up the noise surrounding his social media activity VanVleet said that everybody was focused on the fact that he had unfollowed his team’s and teammates’ social media accounts. According to the All-Star player, nobody had pointed out that he had unfollowed his mother too. “Somebody caught wind of it & said I unfollowed my teammates. I unfollowed my mom too they didnt care about that part,” he said.
VanVleet said he was trying to fight the algorithms of social media and wanted to see if the trick worked. He said, “There’s so many things I’m not following & its just suggestion, suggestion, suggestion. So, stupid me, I unfollowed everybody to see if it helped. It didnt help.” He also said being a celebrity, people are more interested in his personal life and he should be aware of that.
The Illinois-born Raptors guard is having a bad shooting spree in the last few games. He is shooting less than 20 percent from the three-point line, which is his career low. VanVleet made it clear that it is going to take some more bad shooting nights for him to lose his sanity. “That’s it, nothing more, nothing less man,” he remarked. “It’s going to take more than a couple bad shooting games for me to lose my mind,” he added.
