“You decide to leave the Guardians of the Galaxy” Freddie Coleman questions Kevin Durant’s intent on expectations after joining Nets
Kevin Durant wanting out of the Brooklyn Nets comes to no surprise to several across the globe. For his first season, he was completed injured and rehabilitating from the Achilles rupture he endured during the 2019 Finals matchup between the Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors. He averaged 26.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 5.6 assists on his return but failed to lead the Nets in the playoffs.
Playing alongside Kyrie Irving was a massive let down as the point guard was of no show this past season. When he was allowed to play, it was too late and they ended up getting swept in the first round of the playoffs. KD averaged MVP caliber numbers with 29.9 points per game shooting 51.8% from the field. Tensions began to rise between the two during the current off-season and someone wants out of it.
Kevin Durant requests for a trade after Nets fail to reach expectations
Kevin Durant still has a contract signed with Brooklyn worthy $198 million through the 2025-26 season after which he will mostly likely retire. The 33-year-old did not seem to find his teammate too reliable after missing half the season and appearing for just 29 games. Irving took a while to agree to a one-year deal with the organization worth $36.5 million. This would be his last chance to make it work.
But Durant may not be in good spirits with his team. Recently, NBA sources revealed that he wanted out of the Nets lineup and was seeking a new home to play for. Among some franchises, the Phoenix Suns happen to be a top destination for him especially after the remarkable reason he had and already having made a finals appearance. Suns may have to give up Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges and several of their draft picks for a player worth as much as him.
Freddie Coleman calls the Durant-Nets relationship a colossal failure
ESPN’s Freddie Coleman had some interesting words for the Nets stint with Kevin Durant. He said, “Blame is a very slippery word. I thought the best description for the whole thing was… Bruce Beck is a friend of mine and he said, ‘This is a colossal failure.’ And I thought that was the perfect description for what has gone on.”
“Three years to the day that left the Golden State Warriors, three years to the day he decided he wants out. I’m not gonna put all the blame on him for wanting out of Brooklyn but I will say this, Kevin Durant, this is what you get for aligning your force with Kyrie Irving.” He further said, “I’ve always wondered what Kevin Durant is searching for when it comes to basketball or whatever that is. In Oklahoma City, the franchise was his. Everybody in that state loved him, wasn’t good enough for him.”
