GG Jackson and LeBron James

GG Jackson, the rookie out of South Carolina, is a huge fan of LeBron James. ‘The King’ has been in the league for a long while, as he’s now playing against guys who weren’t even born when he came into the league. Such an individual and fan is GG Jackson. It is a moment of being starstruck when you play among athletes you grew up watching.

In a recent interview with Uninterrupted, Jackson opened up about his first encounter with LeBron James. Though his first meeting with James wasn’t in the NBA. It was when James went to watch the Peach Jam where he met Jackson. And to his surprise, James called him by his full name. Jackson recalled:

He came to watch me play AAU during the Peach Jam. I saw Bron walking through the hallway. Naturally, everybody is like too scared to go up to him. I was like, 'Yo, Bron!'. And he turned around and was like, 'Oh what up G!'. I was like... No way. And then he dabbed me up, he was like, 'Keep going GG.', he said my full name... This is crazy.

So far, GG hasn’t played against James, as he was inactive in the games the Memphis Grizzlies played against the LA Lakers. Jackson will look to meet James on court on March 27th, when the Grizzlies will meet the Lakers for the third time this season. GG Jackson has been playing pretty well for his rookie season, averaging 11 points and 3.5 rebounds in the 30 games he’s played.

LeBron James has spent an enormous amount of time in the league

To put into perspective, how much time James has spent in the league, there are exactly 23 active NBA players who were born following the start of the 2003-04 season. GG Jackson, on the other hand, is currently the youngest player in the league. Whereas, LeBron James is the oldest active NBA player. It is truly amazing to see James’ versatility and longevity, decades later after his draft.

Vince Carter achieved a similar feat in 2020, having played in four different decades in his career. While that won’t be possible in the case of LeBron James, as the King will not be active till 2030. As James nears his last few seasons, his final year will be a historic season in the history of the NBA.

It will be interesting to know where James will end up for his final season. His desire to play his final season alongside his son might come true following the 2025-26 season. Until then, James will look to make a possible title run with the Lakers.
