A fresh documentary from Prime Video Sports shines a spotlight on the life of NBA champion Giannis Antetokounmpo. Within it, the 29-year-old Milwaukee Bucks icon reveals his inner struggles, sharing that he nearly abandoned basketball following the loss of his father, Charles Antetokounmpo, in 2017.
Exclusively shared by Amazon Prime, the first trailer for “Giannis: The Marvelous Journey” features Antetokounmpo, 29, and his family members vividly recounting how the tragic loss deeply impacted their family. Giannis’ father, Charles had a sudden heart attack in Milwaukee, just three years into his NBA career.

Despite this, Giannis didn’t walk away from the sport he loved; instead, he became one of the greatest basketball players in the world after losing his father. He said:
I said, 'I don't want to play no more.' We’re all going to die one day, so go conquer the world.
The Prime Video documentary traces Giannis’s journey from a humble upbringing in Greece as the son of Nigerian immigrants to the pinnacle of the basketball world. It all starts with the pivotal decision of Giannis’s parents, Charles and Veronica Antetokounmpo, to uproot their family from Nigeria for Greece when Giannis and his brothers were still children.
