Gilbert Arenas on Carmelo Anthony
Los Angeles Lakers cut down handful of their role players in their massive roster overhaul, including Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard before the start of the 2022-23 season. Carmelo – the former scoring veteran is yet to find any suitor but still remains one of the top targets in free agency. Kevin Durant expressed his desire to play with All-Star at the Nets. His last team LA Lakers seems to have gone ahead with a revamp, focusing on defense, where Melo is not considered a strong player, but he did play an important role off the bench for the team. Gilbert Arenas gave his thoughts on the Melo situation.
In a recent interview with “Vlad TV,” Arenas responded to a question regarding Anthony’s probable return. He said, “If he still has it in his tank. You know, I mean, you got a guy who can still average anywhere from 7 to 15, with the right amount of minutes.”
But Gilbert also recalled Anthony’s stint at the Blazers, feeling a sense of awe as he said, “It’s kind of crazy that, you know, you have a guy who was out of league for what – a year and a half. And then he gets put in the Blazers, does well. It’s been like – what? – three more years now.”
Arenas averaged 13.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game for the Lakers. Though his team struggled in the 2022 season, Carmelo remained the 4th leading scorer on the team and played a vital role in winning games with his offense.
Carmelo Anthony can make any bench look stronger.

The modern NBA is fast-paced, requiring active legs to keep the defense intact. Very recently, 38-year-old Carmelo Anthony failed to cope with the pace, but he did well on the offensive end. Anthony was effective on the Lakers’ second unit last season, scoring in bunches when he had a good night. Making a strong start with the 17-time Champions, he averaged 16.5 points while shooting an efficient 48% over the first 10 games.

Right now Carmelo Anthony is a top asset in the free agency, with many teams looking to fit him into their roster. Member of the 75th Anniversary team, Carmelo always has been a reliable offensive star. Entering his 21st Season, the New-York born star averages 22.5 points per game, which is still a very impressive stat for a role player.
Anthony displayed range as well, averaging 49.2% from beyond the arc, during his 1st 10 games with the Lakers. In his career, Melo is still a 45% shooter and his experience can also be a very useful asset for his team. Though defensively Carmelo can’t be considered even as the 2nd or 3rd player in today’s game style, he can be more useful near the rim, in rebounding.
