“A di**rider will never help you improve” Gilbert Arenas blasts Giannis Antetokounmpo with yet another scathing take

Gilbert Arenas on Giannis Antetokounmpo

Gilbert Arenas continued on his criticism over future NBA Megastar Giannis Antetokounmpo. This time around the Milwaukee Bucks superstar and marquee scorer has come under the microscope for developing his game. The two-time Greek star is in great form and carried his team to the Conference semis in 2022, yet critics hound him for not improving facets of his game. Giannis is still considered the best player of the current crop of athletes, while Milwaukee has been enjoying its marquee player’s game over the years. But former NBA player Gilbert Arenas found shortfalls in Giannis’ game and took to his Instagram account to write about the flaws he sees in Antetokounmpo.

Earlier when Arenas commented negatively on Giannis during an interview with LA Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy, and he received backlash for his criticism. But staying on the same points, former MIP penned a post on Instagram to back up his comments related to former MVP Giannis.

Giannis Antetokounmpo has developed into a beast. When he is on the court, he is unstoppable on both ends of the floor, and never fails to live up to the expectations. The hard-working Greek youngster rose to the occasion and delivered the franchise’s 2nd NBA championship, winning the Finals MVP award in the process.

9-year veteran NBA star has shown continuous improvement in his stats and is one of the top talents in the league. But Arenas sees some flaws in his game. Earlier on his podcast, Arenas boldly claimed that the 2x MVP doesn’t understand the game just yet. He even said that media claims of Giannis being the best player are completely false, and sees ‘conditioning’ as an issue in his game. Former Wizard’s star was brutally thrashed by Giannis’ fans for his comments.

But not backing down, Arenas rather doubled his criticism and brought out new points, like skills development. Arenas mentioned, “The rookie Greek till now has just gotten “stronger on his rim runs and wiser” has he added any new skill to his game? has his 3% gotten better (nope) has his mid range gotten better (nope) has his freethrows % gotten better (nope) has his back to the basketball play gotten better (nope).”

Acknowledging small improvement in Giannis’ game, he added, “He’s gotten stronger, his ability to take bumps and finish has gotten better which helps his overall shooting % the same flaws he walked into the game with he still has now which is why I said he needs to learn the game more to understand how to improve his overall game.”

Arenas pointed out that Giannis has reached a static period, but needs to improve in ever-developing competition. Using Michael Jordan’s example to clear his view Arenas said, “As of now he’s the same animal and the SAME beast, just stronger and meaner. … Let’s switch geek to Jordan. … if Jordan was Greek would Jordan still have these same flaws? Jordan couldn’t be stopped on his rim running BUT the development of his fade away became his signature so if the answer is NOPE then my point is prove!”

Commenting on Giannis’ jump shots, Arenas said, “Players don’t get better b/c their success tells them they don’t need to improve, we’ve all said this. If greek got a consistent jumper and 3 he would be unstoppable we’re saying the same thing 9 years later but my take is wrong.”

Gilbert Arenas might have pointed out some harsh and critical points in Giannis’ game, but hope that he means well. Despite so-called ‘poor shooting ability’, Antetokounmpo remains arguably the best two-way player in the game. He won the MVP award twice and the Defensive Player of the Year award. He’s the only player other than Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon to win the MVP and DPOY in the same season.

It certainly is true that if Giannis can work more on his ranged shooting, he would be a different and difficult-to-handle beast. At the age of 27, Giannis has achieved so much and his fans do expect him to improve on his game, but nevertheless, he still is the reason for the Bucks to be a championship contender franchise.
