“He will ruin your team” Gilbert Arenas reveals bold prediction he made to Sixers GM prior to signing Doc Rivers as Head Coach
Gilbert Arenas and Doc Rivers
Doc Rivers could potentially see his way out this season. The Philadelphia 76ers looked like a legitimate title contender during the regular season but that slipped away after a certain point of time due to various issues within the roster and coaches. Joel Embiid put up yet another MVP caliber season but fell short of the award.
The Sixers were making a massive push this season after acquiring another superstar to pair Embiid with. Ben Simmons who formerly played point guard for the team and was their second option had a falling out with the franchise which ended up in him wanting out of the team. They trade him to the Brooklyn Nets for James Harden. However, the whole plan did not work out as decided.
Doc Rivers takes blame for falling short in the second round of the playoffs
The Sixers looked extremely famished during the second round versus the Miami Heat. James Harden averaged only 18.1 points which caused major issues for the team as Embiid was fighting through a fractured face. They won only two games against the Miami Heat and Doc Rivers speaks on the horrible loss.
“I don’t lay the feet at anybody, we’re a team. We don’t do that. We really are. We lost together as a group. The greatest thing about this is you keep trying to put your team back in these positions to win. That’s what’s so great about this. You don’t lose and then go home,” said Rivers. Even though it seems like he is more than willing to work with the team, it might not be the same with them.
Gilbert Arenas warned former Sixers GM about acquiring Doc Rivers
Doc Rivers struggled to help the 76ers win in the playoffs and it almost seemed like they had all just given up. Gilbert Arenas spoke about the legendary coach during an episode of “No chill with Gilbert Arenas.” He revealed on the podcast saying he did not believe Rivers was worth the hype built around his name.
“If Elton Brand does an interview and he tells the truth, ask him what I said, I said when he decided to get Doc, I said Doc is going to ruin that team Ben Simmons is going to be out of there because he doesn’t know how to coach him.” The legend was spot on with his prediction of Philly’s future with their head coach.
