Golden State Warriors’ big man Kevon Looney sets incredible franchise big man feat not seen since 1977
Kevon Looney Slamming Dallas Mavericks
Golden State Warriors erased 19 points deficit to snatch a “Comeback” win against Dallas Mavericks in game 2 of the Western Conference Finals, with Kevon Looney having the best game of his career.
Cheering Chants are reserved for All-stars of the team like Curry, Thompson, Green, and Wiggins at the Chase Center, but last Friday night was different by all means. As the team’s big man Kevon Looney stepped up for the free-throw line, he was encouraged with “M-V-P” chants by the Warriors’ fans. Looney had a game of his career, scoring 21 points in the playoffs with 12 rebounds and 2 assists in the game. Looney created franchise history, as he became the first Warriors center with a 20/10 playoff game since Robert Parish in 1977.
Golden State Warriors were trailing by 14 points at the break and needed every possible arsenal to fire at the Mavs defense and get back into the game. Kevon Looney stepped up big and took control of the paint area to take charge of the game.
Kevon Looney delivering big time for Golden State Warriors
Golden State Warriors are by the “small” unit team, with 6’6” Draymond Green operating as Center for most of the possessions. Kevon Looney was only recognized big man in the Warriors line-up, who by far had some standard performances for the team. But 2022 Playoffs has been a different story altogether for 6’9” Center as he notched his second career postseason double-double.

Looney’s performance was highlighted in game-6 against Memphis Grizzlies, where he grabbed record 22 rebounds for the team. In game 1 against Dallas, Looney was 5-of-5 scoring 10 points with 5 rebounds. But game-2 of the series showcased Kevon Looney’s Offense, as he scored personal best 21 points in any game for the Warriors.
Ironically 2-time NBA Champion Looney never crossed the 20-point mark in the league and he averages just around 5 points in the League. His previous high came in 2019 when he dropped 19 against the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the playoffs.
”He’s been the rock on the inside for us,” Porter complemented Looney. ”… When he’s down there he’s doing all the dirty work, cleaning up the rebounds.”
”Tonight was my night to make a big difference and I just stepped up,” Looney said. He further expressed his feeling saying, “That’s a cool stat to have. Playing center for the Warriors is a different kind of job. For me to have a game like that is cool and something I’ll always remember.”
Looney then had 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting in the third quarter. He scored 15 points in the second half with massive 8 rebounds as Golden State outscored Dallas 68-45 after halftime, which proved to be the difference-maker for the team.
26-years old Looney will look to make a similar impact on game-3 of the Finals as the Warriors are on right track to clinch their 4th NBA trophy under coach Steve Kerr.
