Grant Williams’ Game 7 heroics for Celtics put him in Stephen Curry territory
Grant Williams and Stephen Curry
Grant Williams knocked 7 long-range shots to help Celtics make an entry into the Eastern Conference Finals. He equaled the record of Stephen Curry and Marcus Morris Sr. for the most 3-pointers made in game 7 of the playoffs.
Boston Celtics made it into the Eastern Conference Finals in grand fashion as they routed defending Champions 109-81 in the penultimate “Win-or-go home” showdown. Fans in the TD Garden was excited for the match-up, considering the previous 6 games played in the series. But strong 2nd half from the home team put all the doubts to rest and 2 seed Boston booked their ticket for the Eastern Conference finals rematch against the Miami heat. Grant Williams and Jason Tatum provided massive performances in the matchup.
After a historic clean sweep against Brooklyn Nets, the Celtics had yet another impressive production from their star player to clinch the series against Milwaukee Bucks. Now they will face the East’s top seed, Miami Heat in the conference finals.
Grant Williams – a new hero for Boston Celtics
The young and resilient Boston team had a tough first-half of the 2021-22 regular season. At the mid-season, they were struggling to make keep their win/ratio above .500%. But it was one of those teams who made a huge stride in the second half of the season and raced to the 2nd spot in the East.
Defensive player of the year – Marcus Smart, veteran megastar Al Horford, and Superstars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown played their part in the 11 games played so far this postseason. But game 7 belongs to some long-range shooting, especially from Grant Williams made the game easier for the Celts.
Williams scored career-high 27 points, with a record 7 3-pointers in the game 7 of the playoffs. It was his first time leading the Celtics in points scored. Also, his 18 attempts broke the record (15 attempts) held by Steph Curry against Houston Rockets.
Golden State Warriors sharp-shooter Stephen Curry had done it twice before in “do-or-die” matches. Curry went 7 for 15 in a 101-92 victory over the Houston Rockets in Game 7 of the 2018 Western Conference Finals. Williams’ seven makes from 3-point land in a Game 7 matched an NBA record co-owned by Curry, as well as former Celtic Marcus Morris. Grant already had 6 long-range shots made in Game 2 against Milwaukee this season.
After exceptional game plays from the entire roaster so far this postseason, the Celtics will be looking to avenge the 2020 Eastern Conference Finals against Miami Heat.
