Dillon Brooks has earned the nickname ‘Dillion the Villain’ after his trash talk and ejection from game 3 of the series between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Memphis Grizzlies. The Lakers picked up a 111-101 win on the back of Anthony Davis, 31 points, and went up 35-9 in the first quarter. Brooks had an awful shooting night missing eight of his first nine shots.
Skip Bayless commented on Brooks’ performance on Undisputed and said – “Dillon the Villain! He fought to be that guy, now he’s saying: ‘Don’t look at me!’ He wanted it and he got it, this time right between the eyes.” LeBron James was seen speaking to Dillon Brooks before tip-off, and Bayless feels those words shook Brooks off his game and contributed to his poor shooting night.
“He crumbled under the pressure he inflicted upon himself… He was laying bricks. It was a first-quarter game as Dillon the Villain could not make a shot,” added Bayless. The Grizzlies outscored the Lakers in the last three quarters after dropping by 25 points in the first quarter. Brooks was ejected in the third quarter of the game for a groin shot at LeBron James.

Dillon Brooks has embraced his ‘villain’ persona
In his sixth NBA season, Dillon Brooks is developing quite a name for himself. Brooks took it upon himself to become the Grizzlies’ emotional leader and on-court irritant. Grizzlies star Ja Morant alternated between the starting lineup due to injuries and a suspension. Jaren Jackson Jr. has done his business with his best offensive season ever and the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year award.
Brooks has picked up numerous fights this season with NBA players like Draymond Green, Donovan Mitchell, James Harden, and most recently, LeBron James. He prided himself on his defensive ability, which has involved a lot of unnecessary pushing and shoving, putting him in the top 5 in the NBA for personal fouls this season. Brooks’ ejection in game 3 just added to his tally.
“I want them to be angry, off-kilter emotionally. With some guys, there’s fear 100%. They don’t want to talk to me or even look at me,” said Brooks about his defense, which got him to the NBA and kept him there. In this series, however, LeBron James has not been afraid to look Brooks in the eye and taunt him, as seen before his game 3 first-quarter meltdown.
