Skip Bayless praises Russell Westbrook for his tenacious performance against Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns. The Los Angeles Clippers are without Kawhi Leonard and Paul George and stare at a 3-1 deficit despite Russell Westbrook’s 37-point masterclass. Durant scored 31 points to secure victory for the Phoenix Suns, but Westbrook gave the 2021 Western Conference champs trouble throughout.
“They’re not done yet; they have to deal with him again… They can’t really find a way to deal with him,” said Bayless. Westbrook has scored 28, 30, and 37 points over the last three games of this series and cooked the Suns. Westbrook made his shots over any defender that guarded him, including the much taller Kevin Durant. Russ also was a pest on defense all game.
“When he’s guarding them, he’s also a terror… Kevin Durant looked intimated to me by Russ’ force of energy,” said Bayless. All game, KD was aggressively guarded by Westbrook, which included what looked like a clean block from behind but was called a foul on Westbrook. Durant praised Russ in his post-game press conference and mentioned how he deserves flowers from everyone hating him in the past.

Russell Westbrook received love from former teammate Kevin Durant after his incredible Game 3
Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook were good buddies at Oklahoma City Thunder and split ways in 2016, which caused a rift between the two. Since then, they have had intense matchups, but now the beef seems to have cooled off as KD has nothing but praise for the 2016/17 NBA MVP. “When he’s retired, people are gonna really tell the truth about how they feel about his game,” said KD when asked bout Russ being criticized despite his outstanding achievements.
“He come to work, don’t say much and just hoop,” said KD. Durant and Westbrook shared eight years at OKC with Russ and have seen him blossom into the superstar he is today. Westbrook leads the Los Angeles Clippers in points, blocks, and steals this playoff. The former Lakers star has turned his season around after being traded to their rivals and performing better than he ever did before the trade.
The Phoenix Suns take on the Los Angeles Clippers in a do-or-die game 5 for the California team on April 25th. The Clippers missed out on the playoffs last season and were looking strong heading into the post-season this year until Paul George got injured. This was followed by Kawhi picking up a knee injury in game 1, which has left all the offensive burden on Westbrook.
