“His primary goal was not about winning basketball games, it was to pass Kareem,” Skip Bayless on LeBron James’ injury after breaking scoring record

Skip Bayless feels Lebron put too much importance on breaking the record rather than winning games this season.

“His primary goal was not about winning basketball games, it was to pass Kareem,” Skip Bayless on LeBron James’ injury after breaking scoring record

Lebron James

LeBron James has been out of action ever since he broke Kareem’s scoring record. What started as a minor ankle injury has led to Lebron missing multiple games for LA. Skip Bayless got on Undisputed and said, “Deep down, his primary goal was to pass Kareem and he put all his eggs in that basket. But now it’s time to regroup and make a playoff push“. Skip is accusing LeBron of burning himself out trying to catch Kareem and has hurt himself in the process.

LeBron James averaged 34 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists since turning 38. “He played some of the best basketball of his career over that stretch”, said Skip Bayless on Lebron’s form since his birthday. Skip talks about how Lebron is averaging 36 minutes a game at his age despite everyone else around that number being significantly younger. Lebron is 7th in the league for minutes played, just a shade behind Luka Doncic who is 15 years younger than him.

Although Skip does want Lebron to play, he wants him to play with his ‘new toys’ in LA after the trade deadline. Skip feels LeBron needs to focus on making the playoffs now that he has passed Kareem. Even Anthony Davis would agree with Skip as The Brow himself was annoyed that the Lakers lost in the game LeBron broke the scoring record.

The Lakers had a successful trade deadline despite missing out on Kyrie

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in a fight to even make the play-ins and needed some personnel changes. Before the trade deadline, Rob Pelinka got on the phone and made moves. He got rid of Russel Westbrook, Patrick Beverley, and a few other contracts while adding younger stars. D’Angelo Russell, Jared Vanderbilt, and Mo Bamba are the standouts.

Vanderbilt and Bamba give the Lakers much-needed size and defense while Russell is a prolific shooter. Russell is shooting a career-high 38.7% from 3 and shooting is one of the Laker’s biggest struggles this year. However, as Skip Bayless said, all this is pointless if LeBron cannot play. Lebron is the main man of this team no matter who they trade for. If The King is not on the court the opposition always stands a chance.

The Lakers have a finite amount of time to turn this ship around and they need LeBron back for it. LeBron has not been ruled out of the All-star game so there is hope to see him back in action soon. LeBron James will look forward to finishing off the season strong and somehow getting the Lakers into the playoffs. It feels like a new chapter in LeBron’s career after breaking the scoring record. It is now up to LeBron to write his story.
