“Hurts like hell” Celtics star Danilo Gallinari gets brutally honest concerning knee injury

Danilo Gillanari

Boston Celtics forward Danilo Gallinari has provided an update on his knee injury, which might keep him away from the action for a larger period than expected. He said that he is feeling all sorts of pain following his injury and expressed his frustration over his inability to play for his country and franchise. He admitted that his injury “hurt like hell” as well. After it was revealed that Gallinari suffered a meniscus injury, Danilo shared his response via Twitter and his dismay over the situation. Though injury will force him to sit out for a major portion of the 2023 season, fortunately for him, the issue was not as severe as initially feared, and can make a return to the sport.

Sharing his feeling after the injury report, he wrote, “It hurts like hell. Not so much the knee that it gave up in yesterday’s game that we won again thanks to our character. That will take some time — fortunately less than expected — to get back to normal.”

Initially, it was feared that Danilo Gallinari suffered an ACL injury in his left knee during their FIBA World Cup qualifier game against Georgia. It might have kept the Italian star out for a minimum of 2 seasons. But the said issue was eventually ruled out as initial tests revealed no tear or any ligament damage. Still, as a procedure Italian team waited for the results of Sunday’s MRI to confirm the extent of the injury.

Gallinari, the sixth overall pick in the 2008 season, played the last two seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, averaging 12.4 points while shooting 39.2% from 3-point range. He proved to be a very effective offensive weapon for his franchises. Looking at his versatility, Celtics signed him in July 2022. The Italian star offers a versatile offensive set that should give Boston even more options in a frontcourt rotation that includes Robert Williams, Al Horford, Jayson Tatum, Grant Williams, and Luke Kornet. But the Celtics forward Danilo Gallinari’s 2022-23 season appears to be over before it even got started.

17-time NBA Champions were closest in the last 12 seasons to recapture their crown, but the experienced Golden State Warriors defeated, the young Celtics team in 6 games and won their 7th title, sadly at the Garden. The Celtics not disheartened by this, are looking to make a strong return in 2023. They added Gallinari to strengthen their offensive ranks, while defensively they are very capable of handling most of the league opponents.

Gallinari’s return date is not confirmed yet. With that said, it’s likely he’ll miss the start of the 2022-23 NBA season, or perhaps a huge chunk of it. Of course, there are hopes he could make his return earlier, but rushing him could be risky for Boston, who would love to have him fully healthy in order to make the desired impact on the games.

The Celtics have massive aspirations heading into the season after falling to the Golden State Warriors in the 2022 NBA Finals. If the initial tests on Gallinari are accurate, it appears he still has a chance to be a contributor to Boston’s title hopes.

On the bright side though, the Celtics have managed to keep their core intact, despite talks of Kevin Durant joining at expense of a chunk of their young stars. But the deal didn’t reach the conclusion phase and the Celtics will nearly have their finalist roster to field in the 2023 season.

Hopefully, though, Gallinari will be able to recover sooner rather than later. The Celtics have high aspirations in the upcoming campaign, and he is viewed to play a huge role in their title attempt.
