Darvin Ham is the biggest reason behind the Los Angeles Lakers‘ success this season. He’s the guy who turned the table around for the Los Angeles-based franchise and hiring him after firing ex-HC Frank Vogel was the best decision. As Darvin Ham is the guy they were lacking. He’s tough enough to put the superstar-studded team in its place and get the guys going to stay on the winning end. His leadership, management, and coaching have had the best impact on the Lakers team.
As the Los Angeles Lakers have now made it to the Western Conference Finals and have a real shot at the title. But when it all started under his system they were down and struggling at 2-10 too. So it’s fair to say Darvin Ham has really changed the team and is the guy who should get the most credit for their success. And, life carved him to be this good. He has been through a lot many darker days and now shines bright as light. He has survived the streets and even made it out.
Darvin Ham believes getting shot in the face changed his life. As appearing on the “All The Smoke” podcast and sitting alongside Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes, he discussed how impactful a tragic event of his life was. Revealing it he quoted: “I got shot [on] April 5th, 1988. It’s something when you go through an experience like that, it really stays with you. … So we out in the streets, mom and dad at the house. Sent me and my older brother Duran to go get a pizza. … So, we go get the pizza but we forgot the soda, so we stopped at this place called Al’s Market probably leading the league in shootouts. We get the soda, get out of there.”
Further, talking about how he got shot in the face Darvin Ham added: “They start clapping just hitting shots, right? So I turned and looked toward the shots. And that’s when I got hit. If I’d just ducked or tried to lean over, I wouldn’t be sitting here in front of you all right now. The fact that I turned and looked toward the shots, it ricocheted off my jaw, and they took it out the left side of my neck. I was in the hospital for about 11 days. It was crazy… It let me know I wasn’t in control.”
Darvin Ham has really been through a lot of tough days and now he’s a tough guy who knows business. In just his first season as the Head Coach with the Los Angeles Lakers, he has made it to the Western Conference Finals and now has a real shot to lift the title too.

Can Darvin Ham lead the Los Angeles Lakers to the NBA Finals?
Darvin Ham and the Lakers will be facing the Nikola Jokic-led Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals. It’s going to be a tough match-up. As the Nuggets have a deep roster and guys who can get buckets while Joker does his job that’s to clown the opponents. But again the Los Angeles Lakers also have depth and a young core which is led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
If the duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis balls out, there’s no stopping them from making it to the NBA Finals. Darvin Ham and his plays, adjustments, and tactics are going to take care of the Nuggets on the defensive end. And, they just need Anthony Davis to live up to the expectations while guarding 2×MVP Nikola Jokic. If they are able to run this system, they surely are going to the Finals, but again nothing can be said as the Nuggets are also the best team in the West.
