Beverley and Westbrook's Friendship and the Debate over their Championship Rings

Patrick Beverley and Russell Westbrook in practice - Lakers
Former Los Angeles Lakers guards Patrick Beverley and Russell Westbrook have seemingly put their past beef behind them and have developed a strong friendship this season. The two were known for their on-court clashes during their previous matchups, but now, they’ve found a way to make it work.
According to Beverley, he and Westbrook have been in touch throughout the season, and they recently ran into each other at the gym. Beverley shared on his podcast, “The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone,” that Westbrook shared he wanted a championship ring if the Lakers win it all this 2022-23 season. Beverley, in turn, jokingly replied that he would also be waiting for his ring.
“Russ goes, ‘Hey Pat if the Lakers win, I want my ring.’ I ain’t going to lie, Russ. We’re going to be suited and booted, and I’ll be right there waiting for my ring.”
While both guards’ contributions to the Lakers’ success this season have been minimal, they have formed a bond that has helped them bring the best out of each other. Beverley shared that Westbrook’s presence in the gym motivated him to beat him to it, leading to some friendly trash talk between the two.

Do Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley Deserve a Ring?

The question remains, do Westbrook and Beverley deserve a championship ring if the Lakers win it all this season? The Lakers could give them rings since they were part of the team at the start of the season, but it’s fair to say that their contributions to the team’s success have been limited.
The Lakers started to click once both guards were traded away, and Westbrook’s demotion to a bench role due to his inability to develop alongside LeBron James had already added to their early struggles. However, Westbrook’s acceptance of his sixth-man role was crucial to the Lakers’ success, and he even became a legitimate candidate for the Sixth Man of the Year award.
Beverley, for his part, feels that Westbrook should have won the award, citing his record for the most triple-doubles off the bench. Ultimately, the award went to Malcolm Brogdon of the Boston Celtics.
The decision to give Westbrook and Beverley championship rings if the Lakers win it all will ultimately be up to the organization. The Lakers are known for being a classic and player-driven organization, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they decided to do so. However, whether or not they truly deserve it is up for debate.
