Ben Simmons has been having a dismal debut season with the Brooklyn Nets. Before he was acquired by the Nets from the Philadelphia 76ers in a blockbuster trade, many NBA pundits believed that his addition could only make the team more lethal. That, however, has not been the case. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving have been traded from the Nets’ roster. Moreover, Simmons recently stated that the team is struggling to find consistency and rhythm owing to injuries and midseason trades.

The former Sixers star has proven to be a defensive hound on the floor, and perhaps that is what the Nets needed the most. So far this season, he has not been able to contribute to the team’s defense. Moreover,  Simmons has struggled offensively and is yet to establish a flow. Speaking to the media after a loss to the New York Knicks, the 26-year-old stated that the team’s rhythm and inconsistency have been factors in their downfall. “It’s a little frustrating trying to find some rhythm and consistency; but that’s what it is at this point right now,” he said

The Nets have experienced their fair share of injuries this season, as well as midseason trades. They have been unable to establish a flow on the offensive end of the floor since the departures of Irving and KD. Speaking to the media, Simmons added that various factors, including injuries and trades, have contributed to their poor performances. “Guys have been in and out due to injuries, trades, so there’s been a lot of different things that play factors into it,” he added.

Before the Knicks game, the Nets hosted the Philadelphia 76ers in the Barclays Center. In the absence of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the Nets expected the former Rookie of the Year player to have a big game. It was expected that Ben Simmons would have the ball more and be more aggressive on the floor. However, he was held to only four points in the game, and to make matters worse, the Nets fans booed him for his poor performance.

His former coach, Doc Rivers, later said that now that the star player will continue to have the ball in his hands, it would be easier for him to find his way back.. “I believe he can get back to where he was with us,’’ Rivers said. “Especially now I think because he’ll have the ball in his hands more. … It’s just going to take time now. It’s been a year and a half. I don’t think it will be overnight, but he’s working and that’s all you can do,” he added. Simmons is having a season where he is averaging career low in points, rebounds, assists, and steals.
