After the game, Memphis head coach Taylor Jenkins informed the press that the x-rays result on Morant’s hand were negative, indicating no fracture. Per ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, the Grizzlies “could not even use his right hand to undo a balled-up pair of socks.”

Morant also didn’t appear to be his usual cheerful self and expressed doubts about his availability for Game 2 in the post-game press conference, suggesting his participation was uncertain. He said his status for Game 2 was “in jeopardy” and he “Feels like it’s one thing after another,” referring to the slew of incidents that have marred his campaign.

Ja Morant said the concern is only his hand, not his wrist. But he was definitely concerned about his ability to play Wednesday night. Morant said, “[It is] tough, man, especially with everything I’ve been through pretty much this season. My main focus was to be out there for my guys. It’s another incident where that’s pretty much in jeopardy.”

The Memphis Grizzlies won’t have Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke on the court for the postseason. Ja Morant’s absence could potentially seal their fate against a resurgent Lakers team. However, the Grizzlies are hopeful that their All-Star point guard will recuperate in time for Wednesday night’s Game 2.

In his playoff debut, Austin Reaves scored 23 points, while D’Angelo Russell added 19 points.

Jaren Jackson Jr. shined for the Grizzlies with 31 points while Desmond Bane contributed 22. Morant was the team’s next-highest scorer with 18 points in a losing effort for the Grizzlies.
