“This is all fixed, I can’t believe it” Jabari Smith Jr utterly frustrated after Chet Holmgren and Paolo Banchero get picked before him in 2022 NBA Draft
Jabari Smith Jr, Chet Holmgren and Paolo Banchero
Before Thursday’s NBA Draft pick, it was been assumed that Jabari Smith Jr is unarguably going to be the first youngster to be landed into an NBA team. However, Orlando Magic decided to change their decision overnight as they opted for Duke forward Paolo Banchero as the No.1 Draft Pick, making sure Smith gets landed with the Houston Rockets with the 3rd pick.
With both Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets looking to majorly re-build their team, Jabari Smith Jr wasn’t potentially sad about the fact that he has to join the Rockets, but probably because he wasn’t able to cement his place as the No. 1 pick in the draft, joining legends like LeBron James. His frustration was perhaps even captured by the cameraman.
Jabari Smith Jr gets frustrated after being picked 3rd in 2022 NBA Draft
Even though Banchero and Holmgren went ahead of him, Smith was guaranteed to be a top-three pick. However, falling in the Draft board to two rivals has to make a player feel some type of way, and that was clear on Jabari’s face after the first two picks were announced.
That being said, the face of Houston Rockets’ youngest and newest weapon told the story of being disappointed with the expectations one has for themselves. Jabari will bring this frustration into the season and can hopefully channel that energy into becoming Rookie of the Year and proving to the Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City Thunder that they picked the wrong guys over him.
Given that Jabari Smith Jr is a force on either ends of the court, he could prove to be an instant success given the style of play in Houston. With Christian Wood and Jalen Green always looking to attack the paint while scoring, Jabari Smith Jr’s arrival could give them an added advantage. Being an automatic starter for the team, some veteran faces could also help Smith improve his defensive voids against the big dogs of NBA. But will he able to live up to his hype? Remains to be seen eagerly.
