The Philadelphia 76ers have been notably quiet during the offseason, with their latest situation with James Harden resembling a chess “stalemate.” The 76ers are firm on their asking price for Harden, unwilling to lower it for any interested team. Consequently, no team has shown a willingness to meet their demands.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Daryl Morey, the president of the 76ers, has set an exceptionally high asking price for Harden, making it challenging for teams to engage in trade discussions. Wojnarowski explained that Morey typically initiates negotiations with lofty demands, and over time, there may be room for adjustments.

Following their disappointing exit from the conference semi-finals at the hands of the Boston Celtics last season, there has been widespread speculation about the Philadelphia 76ers’ need for a squad overhaul. Fans eagerly anticipated significant roster changes, including the addition of seasoned veterans and promising rookies. However, the 76ers have remained surprisingly silent in the offseason, indicating a potential inclination to move forward with the same core group.

During a brief interview with Rachel Nichols during the Summer League, the team’s star player, Joel Embiid talked about the team’s aspirations for next season. He said, “Big season, we got big plans. And hopefully we good enough.” Embiid’s declaration served as a ray of hope for fans amidst the prevailing uncertainty surrounding the James Harden situation.

When questioned about his perspective on the Harden situation, Embiid expressed a sense of disappointment while also acknowledging the player’s standpoint.

“Disappointed, but then again I also understand it’s a business,” Embiid said. “People make decisions and I’m more appreciative of the way he’s handled the situation. We going to be boys forever, want him to come back, obviously, so we can go out and accomplish what we want, which is to win a championship, so hopefully his mindset can be changed.

Following a commendable regular season, finishing with an impressive 54-28 record, the Philadelphia 76ers secured the 3rd seed in the competitive Eastern Conference. However, despite their strong regular season performance, the team experienced disappointment once again in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, continuing a trend of falling short at that stage for the third time in four seasons.

It is worth noting that the 76ers have not reached the Eastern Conference Finals since the 2000-01 season, highlighting the organization’s prolonged absence from the league’s final stages. As the team faces the impending trade of James Harden, an intriguing chapter awaits the Sixers.
