The 80s witnessed intense rivalries between franchise and players at times. The biggest rival stood between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics who happened to be battling it out for the most championships won. Larry Bird helped win three during that decade.
Magic Johnson and the Lakers won in 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987 and 1988. The Lakers started to gain more attention and slowly emerged as a top market team for the superstars. One of the biggest pieces on the showtime Lakers was none other than James Worthy who was a former number one overall pick. He was a great second offensive piece that backed Magic throughout the years.
James Worthy had to bail himself out before Lakers vs Rockets game
Despite all the highs that the Lakers had during that period of time, James Worthy had found himself in the presence of inmates. Unfortunately, James was arrested for soliciting a prostitute before a game against the Houston Rockets. He paid $5000 to bail himself out in order to make it for the game that night.
The former champion was able to play for the Lakers despite the upsetting incident. The team won over Hakeem Olajuwon and the Rockets 108-103 even after he missed an entire quarter of the game. This is just a small story of the millions that the league had experienced back then.
