The 2023 NBA playoffs were easily one of the most exciting and drama-filled. Teams across the league were headed into games with players hungry for victory and seeking to make history. Amid all this, the Western Conference first-round series between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Memphis Grizzlies was entertaining in its own right. As it unfolded, the feud between Dillon Brooks and LeBron James had taken over the headlines.
As the series progressed, the Los Angeles Lakers advanced with the 4-2 series win. After their elimination, many wondered if Brooks awakened and riled James up to perform at his best. Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. too recently reflected on the same on the ‘PodcastPShow.’ Jackson Jr. mainly spoke about the instance where Brooks called James ‘old.
“Did it backfire?” one of the hosts asked Jaren Jackson Jr, referring to Dillon Brooks engaging in a tussle with LeBron James. Jackson Jr. responded by saying, “Definitely helped LA get around something and get some energy and get some life and they went in the game with some life. But he is old.” Jackson quickly followed up his comment by praising James. “He kicked our a**. He kicked our a** and he’s old,” he said. The Grizzlies superstar also mentioned that James was the greatest player to play the game.

For a young, driven and spirited team, this season was nothing less than a disappointment for the Memphis Grizzlies. However, their loss to the Los Angeles Lakers would serve as a reflection of what they need to work on during the offseason. In fact, Jaren Jackson Jr. spoke about the same on the PodcastPShow.
“I think getting humbled was the best thing for us. I think it’s gonna make us way more hungry. Hungry like we were three years ago. There was no expectation on anything,” he said. “We got levelled at the end of the year. So we gotta sit with that all summer. We got done in May. I’m like ‘Okay. Damn. We got done in May. We got hella time.’ I’m watching the other games, really not happy like, tripping. So this is gonna be the best thing for us. We’re gonna have that edge. We’re gonna come back, we’re gonna be so hungry,”
It will be interesting to see how the Memphis Grizzlies come back next season. After all, the franchise is in a little bit of troubled waters of late. To begin with, Dillon Brooks has been reported to be notified that he will not be returning. On the other hand, Ja Morant has been suspended from all team activities due to his recent gun controversy. Regardless, Jaren Jackson Jr. looks locked in focus for the 2023-24 NBA season.
