The second round of the postseason between the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers has finally kicked off. The Warriors hosted the Lakers for Game 1 of the series. Stephen Curry and company, who are coming off a seven-game series against the Sacramento Kings, had just sealed the first round two days ago. At the same time, the Lakers waited patiently for their opponent after winning over the Memphis Grizzlies in six games.

Game 1 was pretty close, as the contest was a constant back-and-forth. The Lakers took control of the game in the second half, keeping the Dubs at bay. In the end, Los Angeles prevailed, 117-112, as they take a 1-0 series lead. The Warriors, on the other hand, lost their home-court advantage as they’ll now want to balance out winning a road game.

Anthony Davis led the team, scoring 30 points and grabbing 23 rebounds. At the same time, LeBron James put up 22 points with 11 boards. The Lakers shot the ball well too, going 46% from the field. Though their key role player, Jarred Vanderbilt, had a great night. Vanderbilt’s scoring wasn’t his strong suit, as his defensive output is what might’ve got the Lakers their Game 1 victory.

For the Warriors, Curry scored 27 points while going six of 13 from beyond the arc. For Steph, it was a pretty decent performance, but what stopped him from going the distance was Vanderbilt. When guarded by Vanderbilt, Steph committed two turnovers and shot 20% from the field as well as from three. Jarred did a great job guarding Curry who was coming off a historic performance versus the Kings in Game 7 of the first round.

Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole both scored 20+ points, though what had been the x-factor for the Lakers was Anthony Davis. AD, having the size advantage over Looney, took control of the paint. He shot 58% from the field and was as active on the boards as Lonney. Kevon, not being a scorer, couldn’t contribute much on the offensive end of the floor.

The Dubs lacked defensively in Game 1, as they were defeated at home by a minor margin. Their third-quarter performance wasn’t like it always is, as they were outscored by seven points. Golden State had definitely learned a lot from this game, as they’ll now look to Game 2 of the series. The Dubs will look to even out the series before they start their two-game road trip.
