As the Boston Celtics lost Game 2 of the NBA Finals to the Golden State Warriors 107-88 on Sunday, the intensity increased. The most notable incident occurred at the end of the first half with 55 seconds left when Celtics standout Jaylen Brown attempted a 3-pointer that would have put his team ahead 51-50, however the Warriors star forward Draymond Green fouled him. In Game 2 of the NBA Finals, Draymond Green came out aggressively for the Warriors, and was engaged in a handful of chippy plays in the first half of Golden State’s victory against the Boston Celtics.

The difference was a 35-14 third quarter, which Golden State backed up with a defensive ferocity that had been absent at the start of the series. Stephen Curry, who had led Golden State in Game 1, came up huge again in Game 2 with 29 points, four assists, and six rebounds. Draymond Green finished with nine points on 2-of-3 shooting, five rebounds, and seven assists, a far more Draymond-like performance than his Game 1 showing.

The Celtics’ shooting guard Jaylen Brown was fouled on a 3-point attempt by Warriors forward Draymond Green at the end of the first half. Following the play, the two became entangled, resulting in a short altercation in which both players had to be separated. Green’s legs appeared to hit Brown in the mid-section and near his face as both players collapsed on the floor which resulted at Green shoving Brown in the back after Brown tossed his legs away. Before Jayson Tatum and referee Zach Zarba could pull him back, Brown swiftly stood up and stared down at Green, ready to say something.

Brown expressed his opinion on the foul, saying that Green and the Warriors benefited from the call in Game 2.

That’s what he’s going to do. He’s going to try to raise the level of intensity. We’ve got to raise ours. I feel like they got away with a lot tonight, but we’ve got to come ready to play.” Brown said in the post game interview. The referees reviewed the play for any unsportsmanlike conduct, and since Green had already received a technical foul in the first quarter, another technical foul call there would have resulted in his ejection from the game.

In that circumstance, Brown maintained he wasn’t attempting to provoke Green into another technical.
