There’s even a chance, according to Jaylen Brown, that both teams will boycott a game as the NBA Finals continue, a major issue in America has risen to the spotlight. Multiple shootings have claimed the lives of innocent people around the country in recent months, sparking a national discussion about gun control. Both the Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors have already worn shirts calling for an end to the violence.

For many years, the gun control issue has been a point of conflict. The NBA allows its players to use their platform, and it’s evident that both the Celtics and Warriors have no hesitation about speaking out against one of America’s most frustrating problems. Boycotting an NBA Finals game would be a big decision, and many fans are divided on whether such a move is justified.

The NBA, out of the major four leagues in the United States, has emerged as possibly the most liberal sports league since the progressive left smashed the borders that divided sports and politics. There isn’t a league more left wing than the National Basketball Association, from the players to the coaches to the fandom, and now that could lead to a boycott of the NBA finals which is the most important stretch of their season.

Both the Celtics and the Warriors have already made political remarks in favor of gun control and gun ban legislation. Following the May 24 massacre in Uvalde, Texas, both teams wore orange shirts with the words “End Gun Violence” on them during Game 2 of the NBA Finals, appealing for gun legislation. Warriors coach Steve Kerr, one of the most outspoken head coaches in sports when it comes to progressive topics, believes that action on gun reform must be made.
